We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Commis Pastry Chef to join our pastry team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about baking and desserts who wants to learn and grow in a professional kitchen environment. As a Commis Pastry Chef, you will support the pastry team in preparing high-quality desserts, pastries, breads, and other baked goods while maintaining high hygiene and food safety standards.

Zama Zulu our traditional African themed restaurant at The Groves is a dynamic, upscale restaurant, featuring South African and South Asian inspired flavours, focused on delivering exceptional experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and production of pastries, desserts, cakes, breads, and other baked goods.
  • Follow recipes and presentation standards as directed by the Head Pastry Chef or Sous Chef.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pastry station and storage areas.
  • Measure, mix, and prepare ingredients as instructed.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of all food items.
  • Assist with plating and garnishing of desserts during service.
  • Maintain food hygiene, cleanliness, and safety standards in accordance with HACCP regulations.
  • Receive and store deliveries appropriately.
  • Learn and practice new techniques and recipes as directed.
  • Support the pastry team with prep work and daily mise en place.
  • Report any equipment issues or stock shortages to the supervisor.

  • Basic knowledge of pastry techniques and kitchen operations.
  • Culinary diploma or relevant certification (preferred but not essential).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
